WLC Animal Sanctuary (Los Angeles, CA)

I’ve tried writing about this place like 10 times now, and I can’t seem to do it without sounding like a travel brochure or a tour guide. But I LOVED this place SO MUCH that I NEED to tell you guys. So I’m just going to write about it the only way I know how… like an animal-loving weirdo spaz who has definitely had way too much coffee. That’s my usual state of being.

Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE animals. Honestly, more than anything. I can say with absolute certainty that every day at one point or another, I’m brought to tears by some animal, either my own or one on the internet (the otter stacking cups is my usual go-to, or the penguin that slips and the other penguins all go OHHH). I used to love going to zoos, I live in San Diego so naturally I’ve been to the Wild Animal Park close to a million times by now. But when you become vegan (or just learn more about animal rights), you learn the truth about zoos and the sadness behind them and as much as I love seeing animals, I just don’t want to contribute to that. So being the absolute ANGEL that he is, my boyfriend found an animal sanctuary up in LA where I could actually go interact with the animals. It’s called the Wildlife Learning Center, check it out:

This place was incredible, the video honestly doesn’t do it justice. We fed porcupines, hung out with Fennec foxes (my actual dream), and my boyfriend got robbed by a lemur. We found out that you should never turn your back on a lemur because lemurs are shady and will unzip your backpack and start taking things out and bringing them to all their lemur friends). It was so nice to walk around and see how well all the animals are doing; you can tell that these animals are really being taken care of. Most of the foxes were rescued from fur farms, and a ton of animals were rescued from illegal breeders/incompetent owners. Everyone who worked there was super nice & super knowledgable, and it’s clear that they really love animals.

If you’re ever in LA, please please please look this place up. I honestly hope everyone gets a chance to see it!
