Hi friends, welcome to my little corner of the internet!
My name is Brittany, and I’m a professionally-trained pastry chef living in San Diego. When I’m not in the kitchen or posting photos of my cat on Instagram, you can find me playing video games (very badly) on Twitch, hiking, or petting an animal somewhere. My real life is full of smoothies, big bowls of kale, quinoa, and fruit salads for lunch. My blog is full of the over-the-top, indulgent, decadent food that I want to be eating 24/7.
Baking has always been my happy place. I graduated from Le Cordon Bleu at 19 years old and have worked in every part of the industry: from high-end restaurants and fast-paced casino kitchens to small family-owned bakeries. I’ve loved every minute of it, and am now working towards the opening of my own bakery (coming in 2021!).
After 4 years of being on-again-off-again vegetarian, I decided to take the plunge and go full vegan in 2013. I was excited for this change in my life, but immediately disappointed when I tasted my first vegan cupcake. It was bland, dry, and gritty. As a professional pastry chef, I refuse to live without dessert, so I made it my personal mission to create the richest, most delicious desserts that you would never guess are plant-based!
I started this blog to share not only my recipes, but tips on living cruelty-free, self-care, photography, DIY projects, and home decor. The name Panthers & Peonies just seems to tie in to every aspect of my life, especially my overwhelming love of nature and animals (as well as some future tattoo plans… sorry, Mom).
A few more things about me (and the blog!):
- I’m allergic to coconut milk, so you’ll never see it here.
- My recipes are vegan, but I myself am technically “plant-based” since I still eat honey.
